Hawthorn class

Mrs Marriott teaches the combined Year 1 and Year 2 class at Wirksworth Infant School. We work very closely with our friends in Beech and Sycamore classes.

Mrs Marriott is also the Federation's SENDCo and is assigned dedicated non-contact time to fulfill this role. To provide continuity for the children, our experienced HLTA, Mrs Wanford, teaches Hawthorn class on Mondays and Tuesday afternoons, in partnership with Mrs Marriott.

Teaching Assistants supporting our class are Mrs King and Mrs Rapkin.

Hawthorn classroom is a large, airy space in the main building. We have access to a second classroom for small group work.

Our wonderful Harvest Festival display. Everyone made a plate with harvest fruit and vegetables. They also made wonderful apples made of wool and glue.

We all had fun on our delayed World Book Day so we could all be in school to enjoy the day.

Fantastic costumes and lots of story telling

Our Colour Monster display.

We thought about how we are feeling being back in school and coloured our monster to show our feelings.

Lots of happy children in Hawthorn Class.

The Year 2s enjoyed their afternoon looking at all the wildflowers in St Mary's churchyard.

We are looking forward to our next visit in a month to see how it has changed.

All Stars Cricket came to school to teach us catching a ball and we all had a go at batting the ball too. A really fun Friday afternoon

Everyone enjoyed learning about LS Lowry.

We created pictures of Wirksworth and Cromford mill in the style of Lowry.

It was great to have an outdoor Easter Assembly with Rev David Truby and Sue Todd. All the children enjoyed hearing the Easter Story.

Our topic for the Summer Term is FLYING HIGH. We learnt about Leonardo da Vinci today. We enjoyed designing our travel machines and using teabags to colour the paper!

Everyone had wonderful ideas of how they could care for others and added to the Class Caring Tree by writing their idea down on a leaf.

A great start back to school in maths.

We have done lots of measuring with weight and capacity.

Our Creation Display.

In RE the children have been thinking about the creation story. Really thoughtful and beautiful artwork.

The Year 2s enjoyed their afternoon learning to be Mini Leaders. They will start leading small groups at lunchtime with different games. Look out for the yellow T shirts on the playground, they needed coats on this afternoon as it was too cold!
